Sunrise Concert

Just finished this piece. I'm pretty happy with it. Learned a few things along the way. Drawn in pencil and painted in Photoshop.

Edit: I've adjusted a few things.

Watercolor doodle

I did this while painting with my daughter. Its quite small and will be a thank you card for a friend. Its about 5" x 3.5" or something like that.

WIP Forest Gnome

Photoshop crashed twice on me tonight while painting this . .. both times was while I was saving. So, I've got no further on it. . .

But, I'm happy with where its going and I like how the little guy is turning out. Here is a little peek at part of it.

creature sketches

Just some very unfinished sketches today. . . Man, I've got to start taking better care of my paper.

Pursuit

This is a painting I did for my brother-in-law for his birthday this weekend. Don't tell him yet. He's into sailing ships and especially ones from the Napoleonic era. This was fun, I've never painted a ship before. Lucky that there's the internet for reference pictures!

Happy New Year!

I have mixed feelings about the fact that 2008 is here already. On the one hand I'm excited by my resolution (and I mean this one!) to finish a portfolio quality (whatever that means) illustration or painting every week to two weeks. I figure that by year's end I should have a decent amount of stuff to choose from for a real portfolio. But, on the other hand 2008 means that I'm getting older. Now, I'm not old by any means but I have definitely transitioned (at least in my head) from a young guy to whatever follows. I know that its all relative but since I'm usually surrounded by 20-somethings it feels weird that I haven't been one of them for several years. . . .

Anyway, to the point of the post. I've been experimenting with watercolors a bit lately and while I'm far from even decent, I do like working with them. So, here's one that I scanned. The companion piece was a gift for my mom for Christmas and looked way better than this one.

Oh, its about 6"x 9" or something close to that. . .
