300!

I still haven't seen this movie. But, I did this for the "300" jam over at the drawing board.
I did it fairly quickly and with little reference, mostly from memory.
Oh, and I definitely could have done a better job coloring it! I may have to go back and redo areas.

Painting practice

I guess I learn through imitation. . .
This was done while looking at Jeff Hua's "Tree Ent".
I'm trying to figure out techniques. This took about 45 minutes last night.

Today I found a site that might help further my painting education. The Gnomon Workshop will probably be seeing some of my money soon. . .

New sketches

this first one I sketched yesterday and added a little color to tonight. Yes, I'm totally ripping off Ben Caldwell in it (at least I hope so, that's what I was trying to do!). What's that quote about imitation?
This one is an attempt to sketch what I was thinking for this week's Illustration Friday topic "Fortune". It, of course, is a fortune teller. I wonder how many of those there will be. I've never posted anything to there before. . .

WIP #2

Not much more to post but here it is. This is about 1.25hrs more tonight.

Background painting - WIP

I am working on this for another challenge at Ben Caldwell's forum. I'm also very interested in learning to paint cartoony/realistic backgrounds ala Disney. I'm especially influenced by Todd Harris and John Nevarez right now and have been staring at Mr. Harris' blog repeatedly. If anyone looks at this and can make comments on technique I'd love it. I'm kind of teaching myself to paint (digitally) right now and I'm a little stumped in most areas.

Monday

More of me trying to be somebody else. . . spent a while studying John Nevarez's blog. I love his backgrounds but his characters have so much personality.

Curves!

So, I'm looking at cartoonretro.com a lot. This is what came out. Angel just got bangs cut so that's the inspiration for the hairdo on the bigger sketch.

Supergirl sketch

This is a sketch from a couple of weeks ago after joining Shane Glines' Cartoonretro.com. I was just looking at it again and thinking that I need to ink and color it. Maybe tonight.

I love the way that Shane Glines draws girls.
Anyway, here she is.

T-Rex!

A sketch from yesterday that I inked last night and colored tonight. The background is halfhearted at best. But, I feel like I'm getting more comfortable with the tablet.

Pop the Cap - South Carolina

A friend of mine asked me to do the cover illustration for a brochure for the South Carolina Pop the Cap campaign to raise alcohol content limits in beer in South Carolina. So since he's my friend, I like beer, and its a reason to do an illustration I said "Sure!"

Here it is.
