goofin' off

I've been reading Bernard Cornwell's "Saxon Stories". I guess I've got viking ships on the brain. . .

A Commission!

I was asked to do this for the Senior VP of my division of my company for his retirement. I'm happy with how it turned out. But, I did decide to not push things too far (you never want to make people mad, well not people who may have control over your job, right?)

Here's a quick sketch of Scott Avett of the Amazing Avett Brothers.

give them a listen if you haven't already.

Happy Birthday Erin.

watercolor sketch

This is a quick pencil and watercolor sketch that I did last weekend at my mom's. Evie, mom and I were all painting. It was one of those magic moments, 3 generations all painting together. . .

anyway, its a semi caricature of Andy Griffith that I spent about 20 minutes on. I'm surprised with it, in a good way. Maybe I should do more with watercolor. . . and use better paper.

Rob Beals

Here is one of my friend Rob. He wasn't aware that I was working on it so it was cool to drop it on him all finished and stuff. I think he likes it. I hope to get to do one of his wife Jess. . . hint hint.

and for those who don't know him, here is the main ref I used.

Obama WIP

this is my first real take on the president. I've done quite a few sketches of him but they all either missed the likeness or looked too much like other caricaturists' take on him. But, I think that this one looks like my own so I'm going with it. Here is stage one after the sketch. I'll post in progress on this one as it will have much more than just his head. . .

Charles Michael Kittridge Thompson IV

I've been a Pixies fan since I was in Junior High. Here is my caricature of their frontman Black Francis, or Frank Black as he's also known. I'm pretty pleased with how this one turned out. This is one of the first ones that I started in color rather than doing a grayscale value painting first then adding color. I like how vibrant it came out and will work this way in the future.
